As you can see, I finally changed the blog’s layout. This one is much neater; it allows me a bit more freedom with customization. When I have a free moment, I’ll be adding my own artwork to this blog. Hey, it’ll be better than staring at foliage… probably.
Hopefully, you’ll be hearing more from Jackie soon. I wanted her to post about the Toyota Camry that recently blew up on I-215. That would be Goldie, our poor old car. She’s now deceased, as you may have surmised.
Join me now in silently nagging Jackie to contribute more of her blathering to this blog. Do it! If she can give me endless piles of “honey do” lists, then we’ll retaliate with our silent nagging. Oh yes.
Way back on March 15th, we were fortunate enough to get free tickets to a Grizzlies hockey game. Many thanks to Jackie’s mom for the treat.
Needless to say, we had a great time. It was Liz’s first sporting event, which made it even more fun. I think she was mainly interested in the snacks and the skating, but she had a blast yelling and screaming for the home team. Of course, she had to keep asking if the “green team” was the team to cheer for… but still, her enthusiasm was there.
At one point, Liz noticed the mascot (Grizzbee) running around. She was determined to meet him; after a pretty awesome beer, Jackie became equally determined and decided to chase him down. Much to my amusement, Jackie and Liz did manage to catch up to Grizzbee after chasing him around a quarter of the stadium. Liz got her picture, Jackie got the beer she had been craving, and I got to relax and enjoy my favorite sport. Oh, and the Grizzlies also beat the Idaho Steelheads. I believe the final score was 3-0.
Amazingly enough, I seem to have sparked Jackie’s interest in hockey. Hopefully this means we’ll be attending even more games in the future.
After the game, we stopped by the fan shop and bought a few souvenirs. Now we have matching $2.00 shirts (left over from the 2008 playoff season). Jackie bought a green Grizzlies t-shirt and I opted for a green Grizzlies hoodie.
The stadium hasn’t changed much since I saw my last Grizzlies game (which was years and years ago, when I was in high school). I found myself wondering how No Doubt is going to perform in this particular venue. It seems a bit outdated as far as a music performance is concerned. Since I intend to see No Doubt, I guess we’ll find out when we’re at the show. Wonder why they’re not performing at the Energy Solutions Arena? I thought that was the venue of choice for musicians and such?
Well, at least the E Center is still standing. I guess that alone is amazing in itself.
Small world; we worked with the girl involved in the drug bust. We didn’t know her very well; all that we knew is that she has a young son. Right now, I feel really awful for her boy…
Drugs aren’t quite so glamorous when you’re being led away in handcuffs or watching a friend slowly die from abuse. Just sayin’.
Jordan here. I guess it’s old news by now, but hey- check out the “tweenage” Dora.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Dora the Explorer is a program geared towards preschoolers. It focuses on basic skills for that age group (memorization, colors, numbers, etc.) while teaching a bit of Spanish at the same time. In a fit of greed, Nickelodeon decided that it would be brilliant to age Dora and market her to older kids as well. The new Dora will still solve mysteries, but of course she’s been given a stereotypical “tweenage girl” makeover.
As someone who really enjoyed watching Dora the Explorer with my kid, I’m kind of sad to see her image shift so abruptly. Some people have been griping that she looks like a little hussy; I think she looks like a giant, dancing dollar sign for Nickelodeon. Hm…
I find myself wondering if Liz will even care about the “new” Dora. Although she enjoys “tween” shows like Hannah Montana and iCarly, I don’t think she’ll feel too warm and fuzzy towards the “new” Dora. It’s sort of the way that I feel, watching awesome things from my childhood like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Alvin and the Chipmunks, etc. get a craptacular “makeover” in the name of making an extra buck. What, we’re too unoriginal to come up with anything new and exciting? We’re stuck on “adapting” older ideas for a modern audience? I know that this can be a good thing at times, but well… it’s just something I’ve noticed a lot lately, and you know- you really CAN have too much of a good thing. Just saying.
Time will tell, but I’m not too keen on tween Dora.
Jordan here. Life has certainly been hectic these past few weeks. Updates should be more regular starting this weekend. For now, here are a few highlights:
1. Elizabeth lost her two front teeth. Finally.
2. I acquired a 13.3″ MacBook, to be used strictly for my writing pursuits.
3. Jackie’s car exploded.
4. We were on the news as a result of this explosion.
…Okay, it didn’t “explode”, but it did burst into flames. In fact, the whole car looked like a giant fireball at one point. What a way to go… RIP Goldie, 1990 Toyota Camry. We’ll never know what finally did you in…
Well, it just reminds me that as much as I loathe my job, I’m lucky to be earning a paycheck. Hopefully y’all are staying afloat in these turbulent times.
Apparently, Obama’s stimulus plan has passed. Do you think it will help things? An extra $13.00 per paycheck won’t do all that much for me, but I suppose it’s nothing to sneeze at. I’m grateful for any extra cash in my wallet, but I have to wonder how much good this is going to do for the bigger picture.
On that note, I guess I better catch a nap before work.
Sorry, I’m still working diligently behind the scenes in order to make sure everything is set up to our liking. We’re very picky about this whole blogging thing. Hopefully I’ll have a better layout sometime this week… something more in tune with our writing style(s). In the meantime, I’m going to test a plugin… so here, have a YouTube video of our crazy girl singing about kissing girls!
…and no, I have no idea why she has a band-aid on her nose. Maybe she was trying to emulate Nelly’s look?
My Daughter and I LOVE to play Barbies together. When I was younger, I used to LOVE to play Barbies. So I figured Elizabeth would too. At first she got a couple of regular Barbies then I bought her a dark Barbie to be like her, since she is half Mexican, but what was funny was she liked the Blond Barbies, I thought was interesting. This year for Christmas from her Grandparents, she got a Barbie house and this made our Barbie playing experience a lot more exciting! So now she always asks me to play Barbies and we do. I also collect Barbies and have my own Barbie to play with her.
…I’m the other parental unit, Jorden. You’ll sometimes see my name spelled as Jordan, since I go back and forth on my preference. I met Jackie at work; we’ve been together ever since. Technically speaking, this will be our 3rd year together. We have a 5-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, who is all kinds of crazy. Of course, I wouldn’t have it any other way. This blog was my idea, and after sharing my thoughts with Jackie she agreed that it could be a lot of fun. This is our little space on the “internets”, a place to chat about life and connect with others. Occasionally, I may even post a comic or two, if my Wacom tablet decides to cooperate.
Jordico and the Mexi-Tot
As for me, personally… let’s see… I was born in North Carolina. I’m an only child. My parents were forced to move to Utah for work-related reasons when I was about 6. I was never happy there, so I moved to New Orleans, LA for college. I planned on making a home there, but Hurricane Katrina blew me back to Utah towards the end of 2005. After taking a break from working for a few months (to settle some health issues and move the remnants of my NOLA life out west), I obtained a job with a large shipping company. I met Jackie and the rest became history.
We’re just your average family… at least, in our eyes. We live, laugh, and love together. I’m looking forward to meeting y’all. Expect more blogs, videos, pictures, and general craziness in the months to come.
